Blue-Zone Advisory Board

Blue-Zone has assembled a team of seasoned executives and world-renowned scientists to sit on its Advisory Board. This team provides guidance on a variety of topics including public sector policy, technology advancements and regulatory protocols.


Dr. Martin Barkin M.D., BSc (MED), MA, FRCSC. former Chief Urologist of Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. Served as the Chief Executive Officer and President of Draxis Health Inc from 1992 to 2008; Partner and National Practice Leader for HealthCare of KPMG Canada from 1991 to 1992; Deputy Minister of Health for the Province of Ontario from 1987 to 1991; and Head of Health Care Consulting for KPMG Canada. Former President, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. Currently serving as Director of Northwest Healthcare Properties REIT (TSX:NWH.UN) and Allon Therapeutics Inc (TSC:NPC), as well as Advisory Board member for Vivientia Biotech Inc.

Dr. David Bevan, MB, MRCP, FRCA – former Professor and Chair of Department of Anesthesia, University of Toronto and Anesthesiologist-in-Chief, University Health Network.

The Honourable Elinor Caplan, P.C., served at the municipal, provincial and federal levels of Canadian government from 1978 – 2004, including three years as the Ontario Minister of Health, as well as representing Canada as Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Health at the World Health Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland in 1998. In her multi-year tenure, Ms. Caplan also served as Minister of Citizenship and Immigration as well as Minister of National Revenue.  Since 2004, she has been using her experience in public policy to continue to forward the principles that inspired her career.

Lyle Clarke is an experienced and visionary leader with a strong record of success pivoting organizations to pursue new opportunities. His consulting firm specializes in leadership and business development in clean technology.  As interim CEO, Mr Clarke completed a successful turn-around of GreenCentre Canada to focus on research and development services for entrepreneurs as part of the Ontario Network of Entrepreneurs (ONE), and is currently its Executive Advisor.  He is a current Director of Switchable Solutions Inc., Cleantech Capital Inc. and a former Board member of Stewardship Ontario and Waste Diversion Ontario, and former Advisory Board member of Fielding Chemicals. He also serves as a Volunteer Advisor to the Research Innovation and Commercialization Centre in Mississauga (part of the ONE Network) and as a member of the College of Reviewers at the Ontario Centre of Excellence.

Dr. John Doyle, M.D., PhD, FRCPC – Professor of Anesthesiology and Staff Anesthesiologist, General Anesthesiology, Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Cleveland, Ohio, USA.

Dr. Gerald O’Leary, MB, FFARCSI, FRCPC – Anesthesiologist-in-Chief, University Health Network and Mount Sinai Hospital and Assistant Professor, Department of Anesthesia, University of Toronto.

Richard Parcels – Executive Vice President of Quality and Compliance Services Inc. and Specialist in Regulatory Affairs, Quality Assurance, Good Manufacturing Practice Regulations, Product and Site Registration.
